A Somerset Apple Orchard

Back in the early months of Summer I started to plan out our campaign shoot for the wedding and events season this September. The idea was to shoot the campaign in an apple orchard in my hometown of Somerset. With many orchards available in this part of the west country, it was a case of narrowing it down, and finding a farmer who was willing to let us shoot there. Luckily we found the perfect spot just a few miles up the road from where my parents live owned by family friends.

I knew the shoot needed to take place in and around August-September time, as this is apple season. So either the trees or the ground - would be abundant with ripe or fallen apples. This also perfectly aligns with the later part of the Summer season when the flowers are wild, colourful and still available from UK growers.

Something about my recent visit to Great Dixter got me in the mood for yellow. It’s not usually a colour I gravitate towards, but seeing all these incredible yellow flowers growing so tall, I guess it really stuck with me. After chatting with my suppliers about my very rough brief, I just kept finding more and more of it. And seeing it together in the orchard, made we glad I went for something more bold.

To go with the apple orchard and seasonal flowers, I really wanted some heavy white metal chairs, the kind you see in French antique markets. There is something about these chairs that add glamour to an otherwise open and vast landscape. These paired with crisp linen tablecloths really add to the overall look, creating a centre piece for the flowers to sit on and create the intimate wedding look I was going for.

A few weeks ago when I was sourcing props, I felt like I truly hit the Vinted jackpot with this woven/wicker basket vase. I’ve had my eye on a few on 1stDibs for a long time, needless to say the prices didn’t fall quite into my budget. But this beauty will be treasured for a long time! Vases are a big part of my curating, so it was great to have all the elements come together.
